Grant Deadline Extended to finish YMCA Fundraising
Since 2015, the Gothenburg Health Foundation has been engaged in a major capital campaign to raise $4.95 million required to build the Gothenburg YMCA. The last three years have been marked with numerous milestones as we move progressively closer to the large goal.
One particularly significant milestone occurred in November of 2016, when the Sherwood Foundation announced a 2:1 challenge grant in the amount of $895,000. The grant required we fundraise $2 for every $1 Sherwood disbursed. At that time, we had about $2.7 million in fundraising remaining, meaning we had to raise two-thirds of that amount, or approximately $1.79 million. Sherwood put a December 31, 2017 deadline on their challenge grant.
The Gothenburg Health Foundation, along with many community volunteers, worked diligently towards funding the YMCA project before the end of 2017. We were able to obtain a number of large year-end donations that left us with just under $100,000 remaining to meet the $4.95 million goal. In light of getting under $100,000, and the upcoming opportunity to finish the fundraising campaign at the annual Hospital Foundation Gala, Sherwood has graciously agreed to extend their deadline through February 28, 2018.
The Hospital Foundation is preparing to make this year’s Gala the biggest success yet as we strive to complete our capital campaign project.
