NEW OB/GYN, DR. LAUREL WALTON, JOINS TEAM AT GOTHENBURG HEALTH
Gothenburg Health is pleased to announce the addition of OB/GYN Laurel Walton, DO, FACOOG (Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists), to our team of Hometown Providers. Dr. Walton is starting at Gothenburg Health on August 1, 2018, and is a full-time replacement for Dr. Michael Trierweiler who is retiring the end of August.

Originally from Hastings, Dr. Walton graduated from Hastings High School and received her BS from Nebraska Wesleyan in Biology/Chemistry as well as her Certification in Education for grades 7-12. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha where she received a second BS in Allied Health/ Physician Assistant. After that, Dr. Walton attended the University of Osteopathic Medicine & Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA where she received her medical degree (DO) and completed an Obstetrics & Gynecology residency in El Paso, TX.

Dr. Walton is moving from Decatur, Illinois, where she has practiced in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1991. She explained that she chose Gothenburg Health for a couple of reasons, but her Nebraska roots were a strong draw. Having lived a distance from family in Nebraska for over twenty years, Dr. Walton stated that, “Coming to Gothenburg gives me the opportunity to live and work in a wonderful community that is now close to my family.” Dr. Walton also expressed her enthusiasm for working in a rural setting, “I am excited about giving Obstetrical and Gynecologic care to the community and the surrounding areas.” In addition to the geography and practice being a significant draw, Dr. Walton voiced her enthusiasm to start a new exercise program at the YMCA, another attractive offering for choosing to work at Gothenburg Health.

“Gothenburg Health was very fortunate to recruit Dr. Trierweiler in late 2013, but we knew he only planned to practice for about three-four years before retiring,” stated Mick Brant, Gothenburg Health CEO. “Dr. Trierweiler built up a great practice and increased annual deliveries at Gothenburg Health from about twenty babies a year to over eighty. He also performed a number of gynecological procedures and surgeries at our facility. We are so appreciative of his time here and the OB/GYN practice he created. We wish him the best as he transitions into a well-deserved retirement.” Dr. Walton will have an entire month to collaborate with Dr. Trierweiler, ensuring a smooth transition for patients at Gothenburg Health. “This was an important objective when Dr. Trierweiler gave us official notice of his retirement,” stated Brant, “continuity of care, particularly for an OB/GYN patient is essential for reaching the level of care we strive for at Gothenburg Health. We are excited about welcoming Dr. Walton to our team of providers and are pleased to continue providing excellent OB/GYN services in Gothenburg.”

Dr. Trierweiler and wife Deanna plan to make their Arizona home their permanent residence this fall.

Personal
Dr. Walton has been married to Bill for 18 years. They have a four-year-old cat named Charlie and enjoy a number of hobbies including swimming, hiking, and antiquing.
