Gothenburg Health is currently seeking a FT Physical Therapist Assistant to join our amazing team. The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is a professional who is responsible for assisting physcial therapists to provide patient-centered treatment through all phases of a patient's physical therapy. You will work with a dynamic, team-oriented staff that provides outstanding care through comprehensive and customized therapy. The PTA will collaborate with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care. The PTA must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and is accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization. He/she is responsible to the Director of Rehabilitation Services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Follows through with treatment plan established by physical therapist.
  • Observes patients during treatments and compiles data on patients' responses to treatments and progress, and reports orally or in writing to physical therapist.
  • Understands and complies with universal precautions, safety and risk policies and procedures.
  • Assists with department QA reports and records.
  • Performs necessary documentation including progress notes and logs in timely manner.
  • Monitors treatments administered by rehab technicians.
  • Gives orientation to new physical therapist assistants; directs and instructs rehab technicians.
  • Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory; answering telephone, taking messages and filling out forms.
  • Utilizes and maintains equipment, requests supplies as needed.
  • Ongoing commitment to reducing costs and improving productivity in the physical therapy department.
  • Maintains positive relationships with the health care team, patient and family.
  • Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the Hospital.
  • Performs other related duties as needed in order to support the achievement of department goals and objectives.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements to maintain current competency.

  • Successful completion of a Physical Therapy Assistant program. .


  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


  • Must possess or be eligible for state licensure.
  • Valid Driver’s license.


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. 
  • Frequent lifting and/carrying objects weighing 50 pounds or more and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to work with hands in cleaning and sterilizing solutions when necessary.
  • Good personal hygiene and adherence to the facility dress code.


  • Ability to work in close contact with medical and interdisciplinary staff.
  • May require travel to attend continuing education, workshops, and seminars outside the institution.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The very nature of health care work indicates a potential exposure to communicable diseases.  In addition you must be tolerant of working with patients who may be recovering from surgeries, illness and burns/cuts (open wounds).  Exposure to bodily fluids such as blood and urine are not uncommon especially in hospital and nursing home settings.
