Position Summary
The Ward Clerk performs general clerical duties, handling multiple management tasks in the unit and ensuring the unit operates effectively. Acting as an intermediary between patients and healthcare employees.
Certified nurse's aides are an integral part of the patient process in healthcare that cares for patients under the supervision of a nurse. They assist with patient care routines and help patients perform daily activities. Employees will provide compassionate care and assist patients in daily activities, including monitoring vital signs, assisting when necessary, feeding, bathing, and charting.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide telephone coverage for the unit, answer calls, receive and distribute messages, transfer calls as appropriate for promptness, courtesy and accuracy
- Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges to complete necessary forms and arrangements and registration needs.
- Collaborate and interact with other disciplines and departments such as medical records, dietary, nursing, housekeeping, lab, x-ray, physical therapy, social services to expedite processing of patients through procedures
- Perform clerical duties to assist the Charge Nurse and/or Nursing Service Administrator as well as the care unit.
- Keeps the staffing log, scanning into the computer
- Scan documents into the EHR for proper and accurate record keeping
- Maintain equipment, supplies and the physical environment of the nurse’s desk for a proper work environment.
- Calls personnel to acquire extra staff or replacement personnel when needed.
- Demonstrates familiarity with facility and department infection control policies.
- Observe patient progress and changes in patient status to report changes to a licensed nurse in a timely fashion.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming and eating to maintain patient comfort and safety.
- Gathering medical supplies, stock supplies, and check inventory for dating as required for an adequate stock in the unit.
- Document patient care activities through charting through intake, ongoing care, and discharge for accurate records for ongoing care.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Six months of related experience involving patient care
- Understand basic mathematical principles
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Possess or obtain a valid Nebraska Driver’s license
- Competent computer skills; literacy in word processing and basic computer programs.
