Consistency is the key for New Year wellness

By Rachel May, Corporate Wellness Director at Gothenburg Health

Our wellness journeys all have unique challenges and obstacles, but that is part of the fun. This year, I want to encourage you to focus on what works for you. Keep it simple and try to not overcomplicate it.

This year you will likely hear hundreds of different wellness tips, plans, equipment, supplements, and other quick fixes. As much as I would love to share with you a magic formula or supplement, I can’t. There are so many voices out there telling you what you should or shouldn’t do. If you find yourself overwhelmed with the noise, go back to the basics.  If something sounds too good to be true, it might actually be.

What I can encourage you with is that consistency does pay off. If you miss a day, week, or month during the year, don’t lose hope in your wellness journey until 2024. Pick up where you left off and focus on consistency again when you fall short. Each day brings new opportunities. Let 2023 be the year that you ditch diet and exercise novelty for good old consistency. That is where the magic really happens. Can you find a way this year to stay consistent when life’s stressors get thrown at you?

Here are some of my top wellness basics that I would encourage you to focus on:

Get 7+ hours of sleep each night
Drink more water
Eat less processed foods
Eat more vegetables and lean protein
Move your body everyday
Soak in that sunlight
Manage your stress
Live in gratitude

My hope this year is that you take action and put in the work that you know you need to do. Be consistent. Find yourself a friend or two to hold you accountable, hire a wellness coach, etc.
