Gothenburg Health expands oncology services with addition of Dr. Vaziri

Gothenburg Health is expanding its oncology services with the addition of a new visiting specialist, Dr. Irfan Vaziri, a triple board-certified oncologist and hematologist from Cancer Partners of Nebraska in Lincoln. Starting in August, Dr. Vaziri began seeing patients at the Gothenburg Health Specialty Clinic as part of an outreach partnership aimed at improving access to specialized cancer care in the local community.

This new collaboration between Gothenburg Health and Cancer Partners of Nebraska reflects a shared commitment to providing expert care close to home. In addition to visiting specialists, Gothenburg Health offers chemotherapy treatment supported by a dedicated team of professionals.

Chemo staff

The chemotherapy team includes three oncology-certified nurses—Jordan Sieh, DNP; Phil Miller, RN; and Ainsley Cole, RN—who work closely with our pharmacist Johnna Richter, PharmD, to deliver personalized treatment in a newly renovated space. The area also features a symbolic cancer bell, donated by Jeanie Haskell of Cozad, Neb., in honor of her husband Scott’s final chemotherapy session. The bell, which patients ring three times upon completing treatment, serves as a powerful symbol of hope and resilience.

Dr. Vaziri brings extensive experience and credentials to the clinic. He is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Nebraska Medical Association, and the Lancaster County Medical Society. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Nebraska Oncology Society. Outside of medicine, Dr. Vaziri enjoys road biking and running. He and his wife have two daughters.

Patients like Anne Seaman have shared heartfelt stories about their care at Gothenburg Health. Diagnosed with cancer last December, Seaman has undergone weekly chemotherapy since January. She credits the staff with making her feel supported from the start.

“Right off the bat, Mike Crisman, PA, told me, ‘You’re not in this alone.’ And boy, was he telling the truth,” Seaman said. “Everyone here has been so kind. They really lock into your journey with you.”

Seaman added that the professionalism and attention to detail from the staff have made a difficult experience more manageable. “You know you’re not their only patient, but they sure make you feel like you are,” she said.
