GOTHENBURG, NE—Gothenburg Health in conjunction with local EMS, Gothenburg school systems, Hill Top Estates, and local law enforcement will be conducting an Active Shooter Drill on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Gothenburg Health’s campus beginning at 9 am. To simulate an active shooter in the hospital, the active shooter will be wearing a yellow vest, and will be accompanied by Wanda Cooper, Gothenburg Health’s Director of Nursing, during the entire drill to ensure safety for all involved.

The purpose of the Active Shooter drill is to observe, monitor and evaluate how Gothenburg Health staff respond and transition into lockdown mode while addressing gunshot injuries and the current situation. Additionally, Gothenburg Health is required to annually conduct a disaster awareness drill for compliance reasons, and this active shooter drill meets those requirements.

The drill will begin at 9 am in Gothenburg Health’s main (south) parking lot. The drill will move through the main entrance towards the acute wing. Any impact on the community should be minimal. On the day of the drill signs will be strategically placed throughout the campus giving notice of the drill in progress.

Residents should be aware that real-life sights and sounds may be seen and heard along the periphery of Gothenburg Health’s campus and through a variety of emergency response vehicles in the area.

This exercise will not interrupt public safety services. Residents in the area should continue reporting real-world emergencies by dialing 9-1-1.
