New Bassinets Help Moms Stay Close to Newborns at Gothenburg Health

Four new Stryker Nära bassinets have been added to the OB department at Gothenburg Health, thanks to money raised during the Gothenburg Health Foundation’s Gala in February.

The bassinets are designed to help mothers stay close to their newborns. Each one has a soft-edge basket that tilts, making it easier for moms to keep their babies nearby while resting in bed. The narrow design fits well next to hospital beds, and the drawers open both ways so nurses and parents can reach supplies without disturbing the baby. A sliding work surface gives caregivers space to work close to the infant, and the adjustable height helps both comfort and safety.

Foundation board members joined OB doctors and nurses to celebrate the arrival of the new bassinets. Staff say the Nära’s simple and safe design supports bonding between mothers and their newborns during the first important hours and days after birth.

“These bassinets are a wonderful addition to our department,” said Serena Findley, OB nurse and lactation consultant at Gothenburg Health. “They will help moms feel more connected to their babies and will make care easier for both families and staff.”

The Gala raised $46,000 to support OB services at Gothenburg Health. The event is part of the Foundation’s “Gift of Health” campaign, which focuses on how community donations help provide high-quality health care in Gothenburg.
