Construction: Patient Wing & Expansion Plan
Gothenburg Health is undergoing a major expansion and renovation to the current facility. The hospital size will increase from 63,000 square feet to 97,000 square feet, with almost 40 percent of the existing square footage to be demolished. Improvements include a prominent main entry on the south side of the building, new patient wing and central nurses’ station, IV therapy, inpatient pharmacy, chemotherapy care, wellness center and a new dietary center. Expansion of the imaging department will include new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment.
The 3,900 square-foot surgical addition will include two surgical suites and a room dedicated to endoscopes and equipment. This $3 million surgical suite expansion is driven out of necessity due to the increase in volume of births and surgical procedures over the last year.
The master plan was approached from a holistic view, designing a cohesive building plan that would improve efficiencies within departments and adjacencies between departments that work closely together, such as patient rooms, the emergency room and the nurse's station. The expansion includes a new patient wing consisting of 12 Acute, Swing, and Labor and Delivery beds and up to 4 Observation beds. As well as plans to enlarge the Medical Clinic and improve the Outpatient Specialty Clinic and Emergency Room departments.
