Position Summary
Gothenburg Health is looking for a responsible and compassionate individual to monitor and treat patients with temporary or chronic respiratory conditions including asthma, bronchitis, COPD, pneumonia, impending respiratory failure, trauma and cardiac arrest. Duties include interviewing patients and completing diagnostic tests to determine their respiratory conditions, communicating with Physicians and Nurses to develop patient treatment plans and administering respiratory treatments to patients based on their conditions. This individual must effectively manage the challenges of working in a variety of medical settings.
Accountabilities
- Consult with doctors and other healthcare staff to develop and modify patient treatment plans.
- Perform physical examination, assessment, and obtain medical history on all age ranges of patients for proper care planning.
- Assess therapy ordered, based on patient’s age cognitive and physical ability and developmental needs to evaluate appropriateness and effectiveness.
- Administer wide range of aerosolized medication, bronchopulmonary hygiene therapies, and lung expansion therapy for proper patient care.
- Operate invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilators, administer gas via multiple methods, conduct pulmonary function tests and check on patients and equipment to ensure proper administration of care plan. Obtain Arterial Blood Gases to assess success of administered procedures.
- Monitor Home Sleep Studies, Overnight Trend Oximetry to assess and evaluate patients
- Oversees inpatient sleep lab duties
- Educate patients on equipment, therapies and medication using language and education material appropriate for age, cognitive and physical abilities, and developmental needs for continued success post discharge.
- Assist other nursing personnel with performance of their duties as assigned and as the workload permits for efficient workflow.
- Comply with safety procedures, emergency preparedness and quality measures for a safe and compliant environment.
- Develop and follow department policies and procedures within HIPPA regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited Respiratory Program
- Active State of Nebraska RT License
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS
- Understanding of anatomy, physiology and other sciences
- Possesses skill set for problem solving and critical thinking, including during emergent situations.
- Has a clear understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations
