Brown Leads Cardiac-Pulmonary Rehab Excellence at Gothenburg Health

Ashleigh (Hicken) Brown, Cardiac-Pulmonary Rehab Specialty Clinic Manager at Gothenburg Health, has once again distinguished herself in the field of cardiac rehabilitation. Brown recently passed one of the most challenging recertification exams to maintain her status as a Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional (CCRP), a credential she first earned in 2015 as one of the first three professionals in Nebraska to do so.

Her achievement underscores Gothenburg Health’s commitment to quality care. Currently, the hospital is among fewer than 100 certified programs statewide. “It ensures quality patient care in the patient rehabilitation setting,” Brown said, noting that certification aligns with standards set by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) to deliver optimal patient outcomes.

Brown leads Gothenburg Health’s cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program, which offers cardiology and pulmonology clinics, stress tests, nuclear services, heart monitors, sleep studies, overnight trend oximetry, pulmonary function tests, and six-minute walk tests. The team collaborates with cardiologists from Platte Valley Medical Clinic, CHI Nebraska Heart Institute, and Pioneer Heart Institute, as well as pulmonology specialists.

In addition to her clinical leadership, Brown has been appointed president-elect of the Nebraska Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Network (NCVPRN) for 2026.

She emphasizes the department’s mission to provide evidence-based exercise training, education, and psychosocial support through innovative care models that meet patients where they are—clinically, socially, and geographically. The program’s excellence extends beyond cardiac care. When pursuing re-certification for sleep study accreditation, the team scored so highly on its previous evaluation that it qualified for virtual accreditation.

Recognition within the department also includes Respiratory Therapist Rachel Gentzler, who was named 2025 Rookie of the Year by the NCVPRN. Gentzler earned the honor for her active involvement in conferences, board service, and commitment to professional growth.

Gothenburg Health’s cardiac-pulmonary rehab team remains passionate about delivering high-quality, accessible, patient-centered care that improves outcomes, reduces readmissions, and engages patients across all demographics.
