Hospitalist Provider

Position Summary

The Hospitalist has oversight of the medical care of patients in the hospital.  The position also maintains an advanced knowledge base and skills in health promotion and maintenance, disease prevention, physical and psychosocial assessment, and management of health and illness in the health care of individuals.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Evaluate and treat patients that present to the Emergency Department (ED).

  • Leads the medical team by coordinating care and ensuring effective treatment plans from admission to discharge for observation, inpatient, and swing bed status patients. 

  • Understands the special considerations of a critical access hospital.

  • Completes daily interdisciplinary rounds that includes timely documentation, and collaboration with primary care providers.

  • Reviews swing-bed referrals for appropriateness to the facility, give acceptance, and admit/manage swing bed patients.

  • Communicates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team.

  • Provides education and communicates the care plan to patients and their families.

  • Attends and actively participates in department monthly meetings to promote communication within the department and the facility.

  • Understands and complies with universal precautions and safety/risk policies/procedures to ensure individual and patient safety.

  • Aid in initiating and facilitating transfer of patients to a higher level of care.

  • Promote best practice for infection control, antibiotic stewardship, and evidence-based medicine.

  • Assist with policy development, workflow improvement, and staff education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO or PA or APRN

  • Licensed in the State of Nebraska

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP, STABLE certifications
