Patient Account Representative

Position Summary

Patient Accounting Representatives handle all matters pertaining to the patient billing account and medical insurance claims.  They will work with patients to figure out the cost of healthcare services.  They are responsible for ensuring proper payment is received from insurance companies, collecting patient payments, working with patients to create suitable payments arrangements, and act as a liaison with medical providers and insurance companies.  This full-time position reports to the Revenue Cycle Director.

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform patient accounting functions including payment posting & validation, account follow-up, answering phones to ensure and maintain the financial success of the organization.
  • Process patient payments and refunds daily so the patient account will accurately reflect the most up to date balance.
  • Provide patients with necessary information to apply for Financial Assistance and/or Medicaid.
  • Answer patient questions regarding medical bills, reimbursements, and billing discrepancies. 
  • Process accounts through the collection process when payment is not received from patients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Understand basic mathematical principles.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance and billing terminology.
  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, and Medicaid plans.
  • Full Time position Monday – Friday 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.
